200,000th brick placed on ‘Chester Cathedral in LEGO’

BBC Breakfast presenter, Louise Minchin placed the 200,000th brick onto the ‘Chester Cathedral in LEGO’ replica during a special event at the cathedral last week.

Louise is a hugely respected, and well-known journalist, broadcaster and TV presenter. She currently presents Breakfast on BBC One, the UK’s most watched morning TV programme, with over six and a half million viewers a day.

Louise was guest of honour at a dinner hosted by the Very Revd Dr Tim Stratford, Dean of Chester. Louise gave an interesting speech about her career-to-date, her work at the BBC and her outstanding efforts as a triathlete and role in Team GB.  She also briefly touched on her work supporting mental health, to which the cathedral gave a donation.

The Dean’s Dinner is part of a series of events, including networking breakfasts, hosted by the Dean across the year.

Whilst at the cathedral the Dean invited Louise, and her husband David, to place the 200,000th brick onto the replica, which she was delighted to do.  In the time since, a further 2,000 bricks have been added.

The Dean of Chester notes “We are thrilled that the LEGO model has passed the 200,000 brick milestone, and that Louise was able to be part of that celebration.”

“We are making fantastic progress with the model and visitors love to see the building taking shape; it’s thrilling to see the model starting to grow vertically now!  We do have a good way to go and there are around 100,000 bricks up for grabs – so any purchase or donation will make a real difference.” He adds.

Members of the public can purchase their own tiny piece of history in the form of a LEGO brick to be included in the model.

The LEGO build project was created by the cathedral’s education and fundraising departments and the money raised from the selling of LEGO bricks will go directly into a fund to support the Chester Cathedral Education Trust.
