Artist Alison Bradley, for many years renowned for the Snowdonia landscapes that are now in collections all over the world, is venturing into pastures new with her latest portfolio.
Launching in her Chester gallery on Saturday 6th July, the exhibition features over thirty new oil paintings and charcoal drawings of the Lake District landscape, and the farmers and livestock who live there.
Introducing the new collection, Alison said, “Moving to North Wales fifteen years ago inspired me to start painting again. The effect that the landscape of Snowdonia had on me back then will always be very special to me, but as an artist it is refreshing to spread my wings and explore a different part of the world – just like the artists of the Betws-y-coed colony did nearly two hundred years ago.”
“At first sight, Snowdonia and The Lakes are very similar, but there are also differences that are interesting to explore from an artistic perspective. The lakes are so much bigger and so much busier, with craft of all sizes. The landscape itself seems softer, with more vegetation and a warmer colour palette. You notice too that there are so many more dry-stone walls criss-crossing the lower fields to make pens for the lovely Herdwick sheep – these break up the foreground and add interest to the view.”
Alison is looking forward to meeting friends old and new at the launch of her new collection, which will be the first of many exhibitions as she explores this beautiful part of the country.
