Back by popular demand: Watergate Street Festival returns to Chester City Centre

The festival, organised by CH1ChesterBID, will take place on Saturday August 17 on Watergate Street with local shops, bars and restaurants all taking part

Watergate Street in Chester is hosting its now annual festival this month, with local shops, bars and restaurants taking to the street to contribute to the party atmosphere.

Taking place between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, August 17 the Watergate Street Festival will see a full day of free activities and giveaways being held in the city centre. Organised by the city’s Business Improvement District, CH1ChesterBID, more than 40 local businesses are involved in the popular street party.

Designed with local residents and visitors in mind, live music, food and drink samples, face painting, toy testing and a children’s treasure hunt on The Rows will all be available throughout the day. Fun wildlife workshops delivered by the knowledgeable team from Chester Zoo will also be offered.

Once again, some of Watergate Street’s most popular stores are supporting the campaign, including Weasel and The Bug, Alison Bradley Gallery, Bar Lounge and Warhammer, with free giveaways, carnival games, and competitions adding to the celebrations.

Emily Ghazarian, Events Manager at CH1ChesterBID, said: “It is great that we have so many dedicated businesses on Watergate Street and they’re all excited to come together once again to showcase the unique charm of Chester.

“The festival promises to be a great day out, with a range of entertainment for the whole family and a few surprises on the day. We hope to see lots of Cestrians and visitors to the city join in with the celebrations as we enjoy our fantastic city centre and the brilliant range of stores it has to offer.”

City centre visitors on the day will also be able to enjoy the Taste Cheshire Farmers Market at Town Hall Square. The market is dedicated solely to food & drink from Chester and Cheshire and offers a unique opportunity to meet some of the region’s top producers.

Emily continued: “Having the Taste Cheshire Farmers Market on the same day gives visitors a real taste of what is on offer in the region and provides shoppers with another reason to head into the city centre on Saturday, August 17.”

“The Watergate Street Festival is part of CH1ChesterBID’s ongoing Summer in the City programme, which has been incredibly successful so far this summer. As a BID, bringing visitors into the city is a key priority of ours and we are continuously encouraging our businesses to be involved in exciting events such as this, which help to set us apart from other North West cities.”
