The Modern Slavery Act passed into law in March 2015 and laid the foundation for combatting slavery in the UK. Whilst it mandated companies and groups with over £36M turnover report annually their actions to end slavery in their supply chains it contained no provision for the creation of a central Government run resource where organisations could register to confirm they have acted and/or are acting to end slavery in their supply chains. To address this Tiscreport (Transparency in Supply Chains) was created to provide an open registry to increase corporate transparency around those supply chains.
Canon Jane Brooke, acting Vice-Dean at Chester Cathedral commented “I am very excited at the prospect of Chester being the first city in the North West to become a ‘transparent’ city” and is encouraging all businesses to register and show their support for ending Slavery and fighting exploitation.
