Foregate Street in Chester city centre has come alive with colour after the installation of a series of new floral displays.
Following discussions with retailers and shop owners, CH1ChesterBID has worked with Chester West and Chester Council (CWaC) to install a range of new planters and baskets on the thriving city centre street, a key gateway to the city.
Six new multi-tiered planters, ranging from six to eight feet in height, and twelve new lighting column and barrier baskets have been installed and filled with Geraniums, Surfinia and Verbena.
Foregate Street retailers this week joined CH1ChesterBID and CWaC to see the new installations for themselves (pictured).
“We’re delighted to be able to help add some extra colour to Foregate Street with these beautiful new floral displays’, said CH1ChesterBID’s City Centre Manager Nick White. “Some of the retailers on Foregate Street asked us to help find new ways to spruce up the street and we’ve listened. This joint project with CWaC has enabled us to add even more to the city’s welcome on what is a key gateway to the city centre.”
Jake Potter, owner of Atina Kitchen on Foregate Street, said: “The flowers and planters are a great new addition to the city centre. We’re keen to ensure Foregate Street retains an important place in the hearts of city shoppers and visitors, so many thanks to CH1ChesterBID and CWaC for listening to us and making this happen.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure, Councillor Brian Clarke said: “I’m delighted that the Council was able to help CH1ChesterBID with this project. Our Highways Team advised on the locations and installation of the planters and our Streetscene Team will maintain the stunning displays in the coming months. Summer has well and truly arrived in Foregate Street – it all looks splendid!”
CH1ChesterBID has funded the displays, a combination of permanent and temporary installations, and they will be in place until early October. CWaC’s team of landscape experts will water and maintain the flowers during the period.
