Chester Charity Dragon Boat Festival

Chester Charity Dragon Boat Festival

Sunday 21st June will see teams from across the region coming to compete in the 12th annual Chester Dragon Boat Festival.  Many of the teams will be first-timers to the exciting sport of dragon boating but all will be participating for the title of Dragon Boat Champions of Chester!

Thought to have originated in China over 2,000 years ago, dragon boating is quick to pick up and so ideal for both experienced crew and complete novices alike, as well as being a unique and fun team-building exercise.

The competition takes place in three heats, where the Grand Final qualification is based upon on each team’s fastest time.  The winner will be determined by whoever crosses the finishing line first and it is the only time that all boats are raced together.

Unlike most dragon boat fund raising events in the UK which are closed event organised by and for the benefit of a single client charity, the Chester Dragon Boat Festival is one of a small number of events that are open to all charities to benefit as it is independently organised by Race The Dragon.

Teams are able to nominate their own charity (which can be from the extensive list of already supported charities, or another charity that is not on the list). In 2015, over £23,000 was raised for local and regional charities.
