Chester’s heritage is arguably its most valuable asset. It makes the city a great place in which to live and work, and a wonderful place to visit. Whether you are a resident or a visitor you will find plenty to interest you in the Festival programme.

Launch Event: Wed 19th July 6.00-8.30pm – Drinks reception at Booth Mansion, Watergate Street with Music and Canapes.  Booking Essential

The Chester Tour: Guided Walks are daily from 20th July – 25th July, 10.30am and 2.00pm.  An introduction to the city’s heritage led by a member of the Guild of Tour Guides.  Meet you Guide in the Visitor Information Centre at the Town Hall for the start of the tour.  Booking not necessary.  The standard prices for walks lead by the Guild of Chester Tour Guides are; Adults £7, concessions £6, families £16.  Please pay the Guide on arrival.  Booking not necessary.

Thursday 20th July:

Historic Brickwork – Assessment, Specification and Repair
A two-session event held at the Grosvenor Park Pavilion.  First session from 10am.  Second session from 2pm.  The second session will include a practical demonstration of pointing techniques.  Booking essential.

Tour of The Amphitheatre & Roman Gardens
Explore these adjacent sites with Peter Carrington of the Chester Archaeological Society.  The tour lasts 2 hours, starting at 10.30am and is repeated at 2.30pm.  Meet at the Amphitheatre entrance nearest to Souters Lane. Booking essential.

Chester Racecourse – Past, Present & Future
Guided walk led by Chris Clayton.  Meet outside the Holiday Inn Express, New Crane Street, at 10.45am.  Booking essential.

The Rows Revealed
Join Liz Roberts of the Guild of Chester Tour Guides for a walking tour of our world-famouse medieval shopping galleries know as The Rows.  Met at 11.30am outside the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre.  The standard prices for walks lead by the Guild of Chester Tour Guides are; Adults £7, concessions £6, families £16.  Please pay the Guide on arrival.  Booking essential.

Life in a Chester Parish
Presentation/talk by Gerard Tighe.  An insight into the lives of ordinary people living in Chester 100 years ago – education, work, lifestyle – and how these were seen in the context of parish life in the 3rd year of World War 1.  2.00pm at St Werburgh’s Chruch, Grosvenor Park Road.  Booking not necessary.

2000 Years of Building
An introduction to Chester’s Architectural Heritage.  Guided walk led by Chester Civic Trust.  2.00pm from Bishop Lloyd’s Palace, Watergate Row.  Booking essential.

Heritage Festival Film Night at Chez Jules
