Chester Music Society Choir presents The French Connection

Gounod                  St Cecilia Mass

Fauré                       Cantique de Jean Racine and Ave verum corpus

Franck                     Panis Angelicus and Psalm 150

Join us for an evening of atmospheric late 19th century French music: four ever-popular and well-known pieces by Gabriel Fauré and César Franck, together with the lyrical beauty of Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass. We will be joined by up and coming soloists from the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music, accompanied by Graham Eccles on the magnificent Chester Cathedral organ.   Surely an evening to remember!

Towards the end of the romantic era the ‘classical’ styles of the great Austrian and German composers were gradually overtaken by a more impressionistic style typified by a new generation of musicians from France.

“This simplicity, this grandeur, this serene light which rose before the musical world like a breaking dawn”: Saint-Saens
