Modern Watercolours

For centuries, British painters have excelled in the art of watercolour, above all in recording exactly the colours and textures of our landscape. Artists today are no less skilled, but have expanded the range of media to include gouache, acrylic and ink as well as pure watercolour. Landscape remains a favourite theme, but the variety of subjects now includes architecture, still life and abstraction. With works both traditional and more innovative in technique and intention, ranging in mood from enchantment and serenity to turbulence and menace, this exhibition demonstrates the continuing vitality of the medium.
