With the environment at the top of the Council’s agenda, it`s first commitment is to make the Council and borough as a whole carbon neutral before 2045. By supporting the World Car Free Day we are encouraging travellers to leave the car outside the city centre at one of our four Park and Ride sites and to travel for free into the city on the Park and Ride service, this Sunday 22nd September.

Councillor Karen Shore Councillor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategy Transport said “The first World Car Free Day was launched in 2000 in Reykjavik and is now celebrated around the World. It encourages drivers to give up their cars for one day and use public transportation, ride a bicycle, or simply walk”

“As part of our commitment to sustainable travel, we are supporting the World Car-Free Day by encouraging motorists to reduce their car journeys and try the city’s Park and Ride service for free, on Sunday 22nd September. Travelling on the Park and Ride helps to reduce the number of cars in the city centre, meaning improved air quality and faster journeys for everyone. All our buses have the latest low emission engines as well as free Wi-Fi, USB charging and premium quality seats”.

The four Park and Ride car parks are situated at Boughton Heath, Upton, Wrexham Road, and Sealand Road and the Sunday service runs every 15 minutes from 9.30-6pm.
