Fun for the Whole Family This Weekend at Chester Racecourse

Taking place on Sunday 4th August, the excitement is building for Chester Racecourse’s annual Family Funday, sponsored by MBNA. Plus, receive a free Kids Pass membership worth £75 with every adult ticket purchased in advance.

Already exhausted the kid’s activities list this summer holiday? From a petting zoo and a Chester FC soccer skills zone, to story-telling and live music, the annual MBNA Family Funday at Chester Racecourse is set to have the whole family entertained this weekend.

First introduced in 1995, the family-friendly fixture is back bigger and better than before, with even more activities introduced to keep the kids off their iPads. Kicking off the excitement is local funk and soul band, Yubaba who are on hand to keep racegoers entertained in between races with their lively set.

Kids can look forward to a whole host of activities, including face painting, arts & crafts, giant games, a colouring wall, inflatable play zone and the much-anticipated petting zoo, all with plenty of cover to shelter from the Great British weather if need be. Chester’s award-winning cultural arts hub, Storyhouse will also be on site, hosting story-telling sessions and the chance to win tickets to their performance of Peter Pan later in the year. To top the day off, kids can take part in a polo match, on mini inflatable steeds throughout the afternoon. Capital Drive Time’s Ben Sheppard will be entertaining the crowds with live music and chat, whilst Heart Radio will be running a special activation of their own.

Have the next David Beckham or Steph Houghton in the making? One of the day’s highlights is set to be the return of Chester FC who is hosting a football zone with speed and target shots, ‘beat the keeper’, mini games and skills sessions.

The raceday team along with official Chester Racecourse mascot Roodee will be handing out goodie bags for youngsters, complete with activity packs and details of a competition, open to all. Prizes include tickets to Storyhouse and restaurant vouchers to family favourite The White Horse.

Tickets to the year’s annual Family Funday fixture start at just £12 per adult on the Open Course, whilst kids aged 17 and under can attend this and all other Chester Racecourse fixtures completely free of charge. This year, Chester Racecourse has teamed up with Kids Pass to offer MBNA Family Funday ticket purchasers who buy in advance a FREE 12-month kids membership pass, worth £75. The Kids Pass membership entitles holders to up to 40% off cinemas nationwide, up to 57% off thousands of family days out and massive savings and discounts across family breaks and restaurants.

Racing begins with the Britvic Nursery Handicap Stakes at 2pm and concludes with the 1539 Handicap Stakes at 5.20pm.

Car parking pay lanes open from 10am on the day and parking is available to purchase at just £11 per car on arrival by cash or card. Pedestrians are invited to come onto course and pay on the day on the gate. Gates 9 & 10 will be open from 10am and racegoers with pushchairs can avoid the steps onto the Open Course and enter via Gate 12 (from 11.30am), underneath the Grosvenor Bridge. All other enclosure gates will open at the usual time of 11.30am.

All children’s activities are provided free of charge. Minimum age and height restrictions may apply for some of the activities on offer. Due to the volume of attendees on the Open Course, queues for the activities should be expected. Please be aware that a dress code is in operation.
