Famed for its high quality dishes at a great price, Chester’s Joseph Benjamin has retained its prestigious Bib Gourmand status for the seventh consecutive year running, after the 2019 guide was revealed last week.
Named after Bibendum – the Michelin Man – the Bib Gourmand award highlights restaurants and pubs, which offer good quality, good value cooking with a strong philosophy and ethos.
The total number of establishments holding the ‘Bib’ status currently stands at 143 nationwide and 6 in the North West, with 2019 seeing 27 new additions and 28 deletions.
Rebecca Burr, Director of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland, said: “Prices and value for money are important, but the Bib Gourmand is about much more; it’s about the ethos and philosophy of a restaurant.”
Brothers Joe and Ben Wright opened the celebrated restaurant in 2005 after hatching a plan to launch a produce-led, seasonal restaurant in Chester. Joe oversees all kitchen aspects of Joseph Benjamin, working alongside Head Chef Jose Garzon, whilst Ben utilises his vast food and drink knowledge alongside the team front-of-house. The result is a successful neighbourhood bistro which has retained a Michelin Bib Gourmand Award every year since 2012 for its top-quality food at great prices.
Ben Wright comments: “To be honoured by Michelin again with the Bib Gourmand is something we’re hugely proud of. We constantly strive to produce consistently great food in an environment that’s relaxed and welcoming and we’re really pleased that Michelin has recognised this for the seventh year. The accolade is a true testament to the kitchen and front of house teams and we’re so proud of everyone involved.”
Joseph Benjamin was also recently awarded the title of ‘Best local restaurant in the North West’ by The Good Food Guide 2019.
