Winner announced in Chester photography competition

An amateur photographer from Widnes has been crowned the winner of a competition that challenged photo lovers to capture the essence of life in Chester city centre.

More than 130 people entered the ‘Chester Street Life’ competition, launched by Camera Solutions on Frodsham Street with the support of the city’s Business Improvement District, CH1ChesterBID.

A panel of judges including renowned photographer and journalist Damien Demolder assessed the entries, eventually naming Mike Shaw from Widnes as the competition’s winner with his depiction of an elderly man sat on a city centre bench.

“We received some fantastic images of life in Chester but Mike’s picture really caught the attention of our judges,” said Mark Tilling, Manager at Camera Solutions.

“The quality of the entries was extremely high and we were really pleased that so many people took the time to enter. So many of the images uncovered new and interesting angles in the city centre and we hope the competition will have inspired people to pick up a camera and take photos more often.”

In second place was a photograph by Steph Gray showcasing a section of the city walls, and in third place was an image by Lisa Davies looking down Eastgate Street towards the Eastgate Clock.
